T his is a portrait installation at the Red Cedar River, running through the campus of Michigan State University. Traveling back home to East Lansing, Michigan inspires me to channel my diasporic identity to look at critical issues facing people living in South Asia. This installation was taken from Gideon Mendel's Submerged Portraits collection, to re-contextualize the 2007 floods in Bihar, India. As I reflect on this striking installation, my heart is heavy for the victims of the very recent floods in Kerala, India. Traveling has a way of helping us navigate the many worlds that exist both inside and outside of ourselves.
