O n Halloween 2014 I left Atlanta in my new Prius station wagon laden with hundreds of copies of my book and a schedule to stop in 17 cities across the US within one month. Stops on my book tour included The Ivy Bookstore in Baltimore, Wigl Whisky in Pittsburgh, A Room of One's Own in Madison, BookBar in Denver, Upstart Crow in San Diego, Ascension Coffee in Dallas, and The Carter Center in Atlanta.
My book, "Inside a Refugee Crisis: My Time in South Sudan," is a collection of messages sent home from a mission with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). It details the experiences while immersed in a refugee camp in South Sudan during a disease outbreak in the summer of 2013. The book is a compilation of raw, honest messages that intimately express the frustration and joy of a medical humanitarian mission in the midst of desperate conditions. All proceeds from sales of the book went to MSF.
